THE CASE FOR THE CAROLINAS
In many ways, the Carolinas have already become a pioneer for plugin vehicles. Early accomplishments include:
- Second largest concentration of plugin hybrid prototypes in the United States. See map.
- Creation of NC State's Advanced Technology Energy Center in Raleigh, NC. It's unique
mission will advance vehicle to grid, battery, and other automobile related technologies.
The collaboration has received multi-million dollar commitments from the State of North Carolina, Progress Energy, and Duke Energy. - Passage of a SC $300 sales tax credit for plugin hybrids.
- Passage of a SC $500 sales tax credit for plugin hybrid conversion kits.
- Staffed and well organized coalition of citizens, environmentalists, businesses, and civic leaders.
Plug In Carolina is also leading an action plan to accelerate it's leadership in plugin vehicle
research, infrastructure, and deployment. The project, known as Carolina Get Ready, is
modeled after a similar, national effort called Project Get Ready, by the Rocky Mountain
Institute. Examples of municipal and business participation could include:
- Revising code of new building and renovations to encourage electrical outlets near
parking spaces. - Fast track permitting for charging stations.
- Offer free parking in desirable spots.
- Installation of charging stations in high profile areas.
We ask all supporters to encourage the businesses they patronize and the municipalities in
which live, to participate in the Carolina Get Ready program. Contact information may be found at GET INVOLVED.
